1. Long Life

The standout benefit of LED lighting is the longevity of their lifetime. A standard LED can last for 50,000 hours use at full power. This amounts to 5.5 years of continuous operation! If we translate this to an average daily usage of 10hrs you can expect about 13 years of operation before having to replace the bulb. This compensates for the fact that LED lighting & upfront cost is higher than incandescent lighting because, over the long run, you get great value for money.

An interesting fact about LEDs is that, in comparison to standard lighting, they don’t actually burn out; the diodes just become less bright over a long period of time.

2. Energy Efficient

Just as important as life span is energy saving; with LEDs being the most efficient way of lighting your home. LED bulbs have an efficiency rate of up to 85% which means that about 85% of the electrical energy that they use is converted to light, while only 15% is lost and converted into other forms of energy such as heat compared to incandescent bulbs which lose 90% through heat. In the real world this means that for the average kitchen a saving of €1,424 would be made over the lifetime of the bulb. That’s an annual saving of about €71 if you change just your kitchen lights. Imagine how much more you could cut off your electricity bill and the cost of replacing bulbs if you installed them throughout your house!

3. Environmentally Conscious

Many conventional fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs contain materials that are dangerous for the environment whereas LED lights contain no toxic materials and are 100% recyclable.

Because of the longevity of LEDs there is a massive saving on materials as up to 25 incandescent bulbs would need to be produced for every one LED, helping you to reduce your carbon footprint by up to a third.

4. Durable

LEDs are extremely durable and built with strong components that mean they are far less delicate than their incandescent counterparts. This makes them ideal to use as kitchen plinth or kickboard lights where, even if they are kicked, they are very unlikely to break.

5. Light Dispersement

LEDs are designed to focus their light which means that they can be directed to a specific location, achieving a higher application efficiency than conventional lighting. This means that well-designed LEDs are able to deliver light more efficiently to the desired location, making them particularly good as downlighters or under cabinet lights.
